Thanks, I think ScribeFire is a great little plugin as I used to use it, but I prefer a more WYSIWYG capability so I can see what the reader will see. For short notes and stuff, SF is great!

You don't need a stand-alone blogging app. Just install the ScribeFire plug-in in Portable Firefox, and away you go:

Good suggestions, all! But my friend doesn't know about or use Linux, so... if his pc goes down, he takes it to the local repairshop and it's working in 48 hours. Usually.

I know that MS offers Livewriter... I'm doing a little research now about that... I know Google Docs can do that... In Ooo 2.3.. I can't find any options for that... Where are they?

Best Wishes

That is a really great idea for a gift. I would have included the game Snood (forget life, play Snood) and I would have made a linux boot partition, so the USB could be used to emergency boot and hack a PC in case the owner lost their password.

You don't really need a blogging tool, you have OpenOffice writer, which can create the file that is uploaded to the remote server hosting the blog.
