Harley Davidson Launches in Taiwan

All week on TV we’ve been treated to a Harley Davidson Ad that says “We’re coming to Taiwan”. I first came to Taiwan in 1992 and I can remember there being a special squad of police officers who rode Harley’s. They were the only guys in Taiwan who were legally allowed to ride ‘big bikes’.

After Taiwan joined WTO, the importation regulations were relaxed and you can now regularly see many BIG bikes on the roads, they all have the distinctive RED license plates to differentiate them from the two-stroke lawnmower engine sized bikes that are common here. And they are accorded different privileges than regular bikes.

When we went to 101 today, little did we know that we’d be walking by all of these fantastic bikes at today’s launch!

Outside the venue…

A kind gentleman who had a far more environmentally friendly way to get around Taipei. He was quite happy to pose for a photo-opp. Oh, and those booth-babes… Well, I got some pictures on the video… I’ve already uploaded it to YouTube. But it’s processing, and I have to go to bed! So I’ll add it tomorrow.

Have fun! Have a Harley weekend!

(ed. I updated the post with a video, but I can’t convert the original video to AVI to edit it yet…:( )

I thought I’d just include this picture of the Tamsui river. I love the rolling clouds counterpointed against the brighter sky. And I didn’t photoshop this picture at all.

Old Calendars: New Pictures - Creating extra excitement in your living room

About two years ago, I was very lucky to find time to have a break to travel to the UK (my home country) during July and August. Despite the BA strike at the beginning of August which meant we HAD to stay over a few days extra with some good friends in Brighton, the vacation was a wonderful time to escape from running your own business.

During that time, we were using a Kodak C360 camera which helped me snap a wonderful collection of photographs. We took 13 of them and made a calendar Lulu dot com. You can view the full details of the calendar at Lulu.com. Lulu is an interesting way to make your own products.

We, of course, printed one copy (and it’s still the only copy that was printed!), in 2007. But now 2007 is past! We decided that the prints themselves were of such wonderful quality that we are going to make as many of them as possible into large frame pictures and hang them on the wall. We’ve already done two of them! The pictures are pretty big, so went to Ikea and bought several frames that were bigger than typical photoframes: the larger cost NT$479 and the smaller Ribba Frame NT$289. Not bad going! Check the IKEA online catalogue: nicely done.

All for $29.95 and a few hours in front of a cap! We got a lovely calendar, and now lovely photos to hang on the wall. Neat.

The Tea Kingdoms: Hong Kong, China and Taiwan

This story caught my eye! Novel ways in which Chinese tea companies can compete with Starbucks, and Coca Cola. I’ve already looked at the tea business in Taiwan, but this video story follows up quite nicely. Enjoy!
