Welcome to the January 13, 2008 edition of Carnival of Making Real Money. Let’s get to the good stuff!
Blog of the Week – The Skilled Investor Blog
Larry Russell presents Fund Authority Scores – Taking the Snake Oil Out of Investment Fund Evaluation posted at THE SKILLED INVESTOR Blog, saying, “Superior mutual fund and ETF performance charts are the sales tools of modern financial snake oil salesmen. They allow investment fund promoters to market selectively their supposedly superior funds and to allege that their excessively high fees are worth it. Lured in by superior past performance, most often individual investors will get mediocre future performance before costs and even worse performance after costs.” This high quality blog explores this and discusses how the Fund Authority Scores may offer a more reliable way to evaluate performance.
Recommended Articles
KCLau presents Life is Harder at Taipei posted at KCLau’s Money Tips, saying, “Living standards in Taipei and how to be financially smart there” and it goes into some great details about the cost of living here. Additional articles may be resubmitted in the next edition. Multiple submissions to the same blog will be deleted, possibly including the first instance. So submit ONE article from one blog once only.
* no spam or articles that are pitching something for sale. This is not an advertising carnival. Your article MAY, however, include links as you wish…
* Please make sure that you aren’t posting irrelevant articles! Or if you think it’s relevant, or off-beat, highlight its relevance to this carnival.
* I’m definitely looking for articles that are readable, inspiring, and well-written for readers who may or may not have much investing or financial knowledge.
* All editorial decisions are final. I will not answer questions about why a particular article was or was not included. If you didn’t get in, submit again for the next issue.
It would be nice if you acknowledge the blog carnival somewhere on your website… Anywhere, it doesn’t matter: in a post, in the post you submitted, in the blogroll, … etc.. or you can do a separate post when the post is published. This helps to drive traffic to the carnival, where people can find your posts!
